Which Stocks Have Daily Options?

By Weekly Options USA ·

Individual stocks generally have weekly options expiring on Fridays, rather than options expiring every trading day. Some index and exchange-traded fund (ETF) options have expirations throughout the week.

What are daily options?

The term "daily options" commonly refers to options with expiration dates available on each trading day. These are generally weekly option contracts with different expiration days.

An option traded on its expiration day is called a zero days to expiration (0DTE) option. This includes Friday-expiring options traded on Friday.

Which products have expirations from Monday to Thursday?

Cboe lists the following index options with weekday expirations:

  • S&P 500 Index (SPXW): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJXW): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Mini-SPX Index (XSP): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Nanos S&P 500 Index (NANOS): Monday and Wednesday
  • These are cash-settled index options. Settlement calculations vary by contract.

Some ETFs, including SPY and QQQ, also have options expiring Monday through Thursday.

Available expiration dates can change. Check the current option chain and contract specifications before trading.

    What about individual stocks?

Weekly options on individual stocks generally expire on Fridays, or on the preceding trading day when Friday is a market holiday.

The risk of a short time to expiration

Options approaching expiration can lose value rapidly. A contract may lose its entire value, particularly when little time remains for the underlying price to move favorably.

FINRA and the Options Industry Council provide further information about the risks of options trading.
